Never Finished Book Summary

There are very few writers who can write back-to-back books that top the best-sellers list. David Goggins has done it again. After the success of his first book Can’t Hurt Me, he is back again with another book Never Finished.

And believe me, this is even better. If you loved Can’t Hurt Me, You will love Never finished even more. The story and the life David Goggins has lived is exceptional. He is the uncommon among uncommons.

He has gone from a fat-ass lazy person to being the toughest man alive. We all know that but how did he transform a weak and lazy to an exceptional, model for the people?

The book Never finished talks about that. Here are some of the key Ideas & Notes I took from the book Never finished.

Building new beliefs

You are what we believe. You act based on our beliefs. If you want to change your life, you have to change your beliefs. But how do we do that?

There are two types of beliefs:

  • Surface-level beliefs: These are built on affirmations. These are the beliefs formed due to repetitive ideas. Our parents and coaches telling us things is an example of surface-level beliefs.
  • Beliefs built on resilience: These beliefs come from working your way through the layers of pain and struggle. Beliefs built on resilience bubble up from within and they last forever.

Live with a sense of urgency

It’s not hard to survive. But to go beyond mere existence, to thrive, you need a lot more effort and work. You have to stop making excuses and take responsibility for your life. There's nobody to blame. You are the writer of your story.

You don’t have time. Life is your ultimate competition. It takes no days off and doesn’t care about any of your excuses. All your excuses will be stripped away in the face of death.

You don’t have time. This is the reality and it's hard. But embracing the truth will set you free.

The only way to live a better life is to live with a sense of urgency.
